I Am Finally Walking

As of 08 February 2018, I am out of the wheelchair. My recovery from surgery has been going amazing and I prayed about it. An honestly, I felt as if I was ready to start walking outside of the house. February 8th, was my first day walking inside of the school for the whole day. To me its a huge accomplishment considering how big my high school is. I honestly felt like the wheelchair was enabling me too much because I would wake up and be straight in it for a entire school day and then come home and sit down and do homework and then go to bed. My day had very little movement of my legs in it. I felt like it was making me lazy as if I could sit back and relax because I was in the chair an just had surgery. That was honestly the mindset I was falling into, unintentionally.

It has now been almost a week and a half of me walking in school. An it is going great! I am feeling wonderful and my legs are getting good exercise. I still use the elevator at school because I don’t want to push it but it is amazing!

Shoulder Doctor Appointment

On July 7, 2017 I went to see Dr. Kam, the doctor who did my half shoulder replacement. I first want to say he is an amazing doctor and I am so thankful to him.

We talked about my range of motion since I last seen him, since I haven’t been in PT, he said it is better than last time. I wasn’t sure if it was because of not being in PT. We also talked about how long ago my surgery was, which is 1 year as of June 24. I am so proud of the progress I have made. We have now worked up to seeing him once a year, of course we can come in sooner if needed. Most of all, I am so proud of my progress. This surgery has taken away my pain, besides a little pain ever so often, and now I can move it without hurting. I thank my family for being by my side through all of this. I also thank God for helping make the decision to go forward with all of that as well as him put his hands on the nurses and surgeons.

Maybe by the next time I need another shoulder replacement, we will some new things we don’t have now..

Coming to the End

It seems as if this school year has come to an end very quickly. This year I struggled a bit in the beginning, but I have almost made it through. I have overcome and accomplished so much this year, it is amazing. I am so proud of myself for making it this far! It has been a pretty good year…. I thank all my teachers for working with me. I thank them for coming to school everyday and teaching me new things. I thank them for their patience. I can’t wait to see what next year holds for me. We have less than a month less including exams! I can’t believe it almost over! I am in disbelief that I will be a Junior in high school next school year. I will also be 17 in October. Where has the time gone? It is crazy how time flies….

Although, I am very excited to be going to camp when school ends … I didn’t go last year due having my shoulder replaced. I took that time to heal and rest. This year I am back in action and ready to go to camp.

It Has Been 4 Years

As of February 20th, it has been 4 years since my diagnosis of Pre-B cell ALL Leukemia.

I would like to thank my family for always being by my side  fighting this battle with me. This diagnosis didnt onmy affect me, but the closest people around me as well.

I also want to thank God for guiding ne and giving me the strength to fight the battle.

Without God and my family by my side, I dont know how I would be able to handle this.

Port Removal Surgery

01/06/17

Yay! My port is out! I went in yesterday afternoon for the surgery. I was a bit nervous, but the excitement took over. This is a huge step in my journey! It to me, signifies the end, like the real end. I am so happy and thankful to all the people who have walked this journey with me. An the people who have encouraged me and lifted me up. Everyone who has fought right along side me, especially my family who has never left me! All the glory goes to God! In him anything is possible, you just need to believe and put your faith in him! “I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME.” Philippians 4:13

I HAD A BLAST ?

November 19,

Last night I went to one of my first big outtings in A WHILE! I got free tickets to go to a concert thrown by Fresh Empire that featured DJ So Hype and Miss Mulatto. My sister and I were screaming when the guy told us about the tickets in the first place. I was so excited about it that when I got home, that that night I ordered tickets for my sister, a couple friends, and I to go.

Well it was last night and I had a blast! We danced A LOT, took pictures, listened to Miss Mulatto, and overal enjoyed ourselves! I stood and danced all night long. Mind you this was the longest I have stood for in a while. It didn’t start until 8 and went until 11. As well as danced. I barely danced at my 8th grade dance and was in a wheelchair at Homecoming last year, so I was proud of myself for dancing for that long. I was very proud of myself, my first big outting in a long time. God works in wonderful ways! I thankhim for giving me the strength and energy to get through last night! I also want to thank Fresh Empire for doing this for us teens! Something awesome for us to do instead of being out on the streets all night getting into trouble.

Update on Walking

So I know you guys probably read my Wheelchair Raint a little while back, I have an update on that.

For the past 3 weeks I have been walking in school and not using the wheelchair. My wheelchair went out the Sunday before the day I was supposed to go to school. It just gave out.  I decided that I would just walk around the school but use the elevator. I wasn’t going to push myself, but I knew I could do it. After the frst day,I felt great. My parents found someone that xould fix the chair but I wanted to walk. I told them I’d pray over it and see what I wanted to do. I felt God telling me to do it amd not to limit myself. That I needed to trust in him and myself, not to doubt him or let anyone doubt me. Ever since then, I have been walking in school. A HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR ME!!

Physical Therapy Update

This last Friday at physical therapy was and reevaluation day. I am so excited to tell you guys what happened.

So Friday at physical we had to do a rereevaluation. My therapist Natalie tested my active and active/passive range of motion. I am so excited with how far I have come after my half shoulder replacement surgery.

We started with my normal routine and then started with the evaluation. We tested my active range of motion, which is me moving/lifting my arm by myself. Going straight out front I got to 90°, to the side I got to 78°, and with my arm my side bent at at the elbow I got 0° (and we’re only aloud to go to 30°). We then did some active/passive table stretching. Going straight out to the front she stretched me out to 122°, going out to the side she got me to 120°, and with my arm by my side with my arm bent pushing it outward she got me to 16° (and we’re only aloud to go to 30°).

I am beyond proud of myself! I am can’t believe how far I have come! I am so thankful to all the people who pushed me, helped me, and believed in me. I have worked so hard to get where I am today. I thank God for never leaving me and standing by me throughout everything.

PT Kicked My Butt??

08/12/16

This morning, I had physical therapy. I couldn’t wait for it because of getting new orders from my shoulder surgeon, Dr. Kam.

As soon as I walked in, they noticed I didn’t have the brace on. I then told them how excited I was and that I had new protocol for them. Some new exercises were added with new orders. With these new orders, comes harder work outs. Today, those exercises really kicked my butt! Lol! Today we added pullies and a bar exercise the stretches out my arm. I was really worked out today! Added these new exercises, I really need to stay on to of my pain medication.

Although, I was in pain after physical therapy I am glad to be at this point in my journey. I am so proud of myself and how hard I have worked! It is the little victories! I am thankful my arm is doing well enough to increase my exercises. I thank my family, friends and everyone who has supported me! I thank God for giving me the strength to endure these things!

(Boy am I sore though! They really kicked my booty!)
